Plants reduce noise in open plan offices
Open plan spaces are popular and very common in this day and age of modern high-rise buildings and perfect for staff to mix and collaborate. However, they can be noisy places with phone chatter, laughter and gossip, trollies and footsteps on hard floors, printers, copiers, and even some real work going on...
It is well known that carpets and furniture deaden sound but less obvious that plants can diffract, reflect and absorb this noise pollution. Plant displays placed near the edges and corners of a space are better than in the middle. This is because sound is reflected from the walls straight into the foliage. Cabinet top planting around workstations can give a bit of privacy whilst absorbing noise, trough dividers to create small meeting huddles, built in planters or clusters of displays in busy traffic areas will soak up the foot fall, basically all planting helps.
So not only are interior plants good for their environments and the people in them, noise reduction is another good reason to surround yourselves and staff with greenery...
Please see the images below for some of the planting we have installed recently.
