The Big Move...

What does Friday the 13th mean to you? For us at Decorfolia it meant signing on the dotted line and moving to our new home. Those of you that meet Mark and I regularly will probably know all about THE MOVE but just in case some of you haven't been bored with the story let me entertain you......

Small but perfect for us...

Once upon a time there was a small, but very busy Interior Landscaping company called Decorfolia Limited, they were based on a very large houseplant nursery on the far edge of the mysterious New Forest, where they rented glasshouse space, and land for the office and storage areas. One day the 'big bad landlord' wanted his glasshouses and land for a special project of his own and although he offered to move poor little Decorfolia to another part of his nursery it was all rather upsetting and frightening. It was then that the fairy godmother came and placed an advertisement in our local newspaper, a small nursery with glasshouses, an office and lots of space was for sale! Pat and Mark put on their best running shoes and rushed off to the Estate Agent with a cheque book and lots of smiles... My oh my, there were so many forms to fill in and things to sign, then we had to wait!!! But eventually the purchase of our new site was to be completed on Friday 13th April and we were allowed to move in....

That weekend, helped by members of my family and Mark's family, plus friends and of course the Decorfolia Team, we moved the six miles into our little oasis of peace and quiet in the heart of the New Forest national park. The previous owner had used the site to sell Exotic plants and Palms and he had landscaped the whole site to look like a Mediterranean film set. Early on during the wonderful spring weather we all enjoyed this year, the Cordyline Australis trees (some are 3m+) all flowered and the air was sweet with their perfume, and buzzing with the local bee activity. Our immediate neighbours are horses, with a couple of sheep, plus deer and pheasants - I hope you are getting the picture! Even the days and days of rain haven't dampened our spirits...

There has been lots of work to do, putting in heating for our own tropical plants, and generally getting the glasshouses back into good working order. Eventually, part of the "master plan" will be to offer similar plant displays as many of you already have in your offices, but in a more domestic style of planter for conservatories and general home use - Mark and I have had them in our homes for years, now it's time to spread the word.

As they say - watch this space...
